How the course runs
- Person centred care, principles & practice
The session opens by establishing what person-centred care really means in practice. Moving beyond the phrase to explore how individual values, preferences, and outcomes should drive every care plan. Participants examine what good looks like and why it matters to the people they support. - Regulatory standards & compliance
Participants explore the regulatory landscape, understanding the expectations of the SSSC, National Care Standards, and Care Inspectorate in relation to care planning. This section covers what inspectors look for, common compliance gaps, and how good documentation protects both individuals and workers. - Creating effective care plans, structures & stages
The most practically focused section. Using case studies and group exercises, participants work through the stages of care planning, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation and practice creating care plans that are clear, personalised, and fit for purpose. The session explores how individual care plans differ depending on need, setting, and circumstance. - Reviews, updates & ongoing assessments
Care plans are living documents, this section covers why regular reviews matter, how to identify when a plan needs updating, and how to assess whether a care plan is working. Participants explore the triggers for review and the documentation required to demonstrate ongoing quality of care. - Assessment, Q&A & certification
Continuous assessment runs throughout the session. The course closes with an open Q&A, participants are encouraged to bring workplace scenarios, followed by a knowledge check and certification for those who complete all assessments successfully.
